Consult a veterinarian before treating pain or emotional problems. Sound Renew is for use alongside veterinary care, not instead of it.
The idea
Sound Renew applies sonotherapy through a headphone bud to specific ear acupuncture points to help painful areas and many health conditions in your animal. You can also place a larger speaker directly on the body part. The simple method is below; the advanced methods follow.
Simple treatment
- Treat the sore area. Choose the health condition, then place a phone speaker, Bluetooth speaker or can speaker on the painful area. Press Start and treat for 5 to 10 minutes. In the dog treatments, red dots on the photo mark where the speaker goes.
- Treat the matching ear point. Lower the volume to a comfortable level and use a headphone bud on the corresponding ear reflex point, for example the hip on the body means the hip point on the ear. Treat the right ear for right-side pain and the left ear for left-side pain, for 4 to 6 minutes.
- Relax the muscles. Treat the top of the ear point opposite the one you just treated, for 4 to 6 minutes.

Advanced: pulse-guided treatment
For experienced users and veterinary acupuncturists, the app's directions describe finding the active, painful point by pulse, using pulse-controlled sound treatment. In outline:
- Select a health condition to treat.
- Find and monitor your own temporal pulse, in front of your ear, with the tip of your index finger.
- With your other hand, scan your animal slowly with a speaker. Your pulse gets stronger for a few beats when you find the active, painful point.
- Treat that point for 5 to 10 minutes. Then treat the corresponding ear point, and the top of the ear, for 4 to 6 minutes each.
The method follows the pulse-controlled acupuncture concept described by Dr. Uwe Petermann for horses and dogs.
Advanced: emotional treatments
Emotional treatments, for fear, loss of love, anger, claustrophobia and bullying, are advanced skills. The app asks you to see an auricular medicine veterinarian for help. In outline, one active point on the ear responds to a unique frequency; you search the ear points by touching the bud to each for a few seconds while monitoring your pulse, then treat the one active point for 4 to 6 minutes, every other day, until the emotional problem has resolved.
When to stop
Stop and contact your veterinarian if your animal seems distressed, if pain gets worse, or if you are unsure what you are treating.
